An unusual thing in a celebration of the feast day of a patron saint in a very few towns, if not forgotten by now, that dates back in the early years.


I met Nicomedes “Mang IDEZ” Villaluz, a giant balloon maker who lives in Angono, Rizal. apart from that he is the only one who makes a giant balloon made of paper that others call it hot air balloon. it is performed and done only on the eve of the night. At the last mass on November 22 before the feast of Saint Clement, the patron saint of Angono.

"Noong araw, ang ginagamit namin ay apoy mula sa langis ng niyog ay tradisyon na kinagisnan namin at ito’y nilalagay sa laylayan ng lobo na magsisilbing fuel ng lobo para makalipad siya. Ang init nito sa loob ng lobo ay magsisilbing hangin para itulak ito pataas. Prang kasing tulad ng hot air balloon."

"Sa nagbabagong panahon nakaisip ako ng alternatibo sa pagpapalipad ng lobo para makaiwas sa maaring idulot nito sa kumunidad at sa tao na puwedeng pagsimulan ng sunog. Sa bagong pamamaraan na ito ay gumamit na lang ako ng fuel o gas na pinauusukan na lang yung loob ng lobo na magsisilbing niyang hangin para umangat at lumutang ito patulak paitaas."

we talk about his family legacy.

Kuya Jess - So, that's your family legacy!
                     You also want to learn how to make a balloon?
Pong - Yes! because no one else will do that. I don't know                         because my uncle is not interested.
          - so, I'm trying my best to study and continue the legacy.

In just a few minutes we will witness the events here outside the church. And we are lucky to be a part of their celebration of the festival here in the town of Angono.

Beliefs and faiths in the area and cultures and traditions are alive and well in modern times. This is an unusual thing in the celebration of the feast day of a patron saint in the town of Angono Rizal, part of their tradition and culture is the flying of balloons.

Mang Idez puts the heat of the air inside the balloon.


 

But here in Angono it is a thanksgiving, ushering in the formal start of the feast day. This is a sign that can be seen at night in the space of the eve.





Lakeside Wawa
 It becomes a symbol of a light like the lighthouse that gives a signal or guide to the return of those who swim in the lake to prepare for the celebration.

The celebration starts with the novena mass on the 22nd day of November.
