When we talk about island hopping in the Philippines, Caramoan is one of the most popular. This rugged and remote paradise in Bicol Region. Caramoan is a 4th class town in the province of Camarines Sur, according to the 2020 census, it has a population of 51,728 out of 11,570 households.



Located in the lower eastern part of Camarines Sur in the Bicol Region, the beautiful islands of Caramoan are located. Known as a Secret Paradise for having perfect white sand beaches, tranquil lakes, deep caves, coves and rich marine life, Caramoan gives a new meaning to "island hopping".
According to the people of Caramoan and nearby areas, the story behind this mysterious fish happened about 20 years ago, when a tidal wave came, and water filled the rocks on Matukad Island.


It became a lagoon where two "bangus" (milkfish) lived, whose origin was unknown.


At that time, a man went out with his son to find food for their family. Unexpectedly, they discovered the said lagoon.

They saw 2 bangus, and the father caught one. They brought it home and ate it. The whole family died one day after eating the fish. From then on, none of the Caramoan people dared to hunt bangus.
Even a folk tale or a myth has a message that we need to understand. Even if we don't believe it, we must respect, care for and protect nature with respect to the great creator. If we destroy all of us, no one will benefit.
