In commemoration of the martyrdom of Dr. JosΓ© Rizal, foremost Filipino hero and nationalist, the National Museum of the Philippines exhibits for the first time his opus
“Josephine Sleeping”.
In the last days of February 1895, while still in Dapitan,
Rizal met an 18-year-old petite Irish girl; Josephine Bracken was the last love of Philippine national hero JosΓ© Rizal.

The sculpture Josephine Sleeping by Jose Rizal sold for P31,241,600 at an auction in 2024, becoming the most expensive work of art by the national hero. The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) acquired the sculpture, and it is now part of the National Fine Arts Collection.
