Art Camp Philippines at the First On-the-Spot Painting Contest at the Manila Port
Manila, Philippines – A new partnership has set sail as Art Camp Philippines, in collaboration with the Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ), successfully held the first-ever On-the-Spot Painting Contest at the historic Manila Port with the theme “Harbor of Heritage: Painting the Soul of the Port.”
This groundbreaking event is more than just a competition—it is a cultural initiative that anchors art, history, and public service into one vibrant narrative. The painting contest highlighted the Manila Port not only as a hub of commerce and travel, but also as a living heritage site that embodies the resilience, stories, and identity of the Filipino people.
The initiative was made possible through the vision and leadership of Dr. Cesar Hilario L. Anastacio Jr., MD, MPH, Chief of NCR Station, Bureau of Quarantine (BOQ), who also serves as an active member of Art Camp Philippines. Dr. Anastacio initiated the idea of integrating art and heritage preservation within the Port, thereby giving artists, students, and the community a chance to reimagine and celebrate the nation’s maritime legacy.
The contest gathered talented student-artists and members of the Art Camp network, who expressed their creative visions of the Manila Port through colors, strokes, and stories on canvas. Each artwork became a reflection of the soul of the harbor—capturing its role as a gateway of trade, migration, hope, and nationhood.
