Having an emergency kit is an important step to prepare and protect your household for unforeseen events. An emergency kit is essential for short term survival providing vital items for you, your family or household. It is a good idea to always keep your kit in a handy place known to everyone in the household.


Emergency prepared kits or disaster kits can help people survive after a disaster occurs. The first 72 hours after an emergency are incredibly important. Having the right survival gear helps people treat wounds, find help and more.

As part on safety and emergency preparedness, you should build a kit. the purpose of the different items that are added. Below is the full list of recommended items to include in Emergency Kit.

Recommended Supplies to Include in a Basic Kit:

1. Non-Perishable food - If including canned foods, you must include a can opener.

2. Bottled Water - 1 gallon per person is recommended

3. Personal hygiene items (travel size deodorant, cotton swabs, feminine items, etc.)

4. Additional Umbrellas, raincoats and boots.

5. Waterproof bags for your wallet and electronic gadgets

6. An extra power bank for the phone

7. Flashlight with extra battery

8. Matches or lighters and candles.

9. First Aid Supplies - Bandages, Ointment, Disinfectant wipes

10. Battery powered radio and a NOAA Weather radio- portable power hand crank radio.

11. Extra clothes and towels

12. Copies of important documents

13. Whistle to Signal for help
