One of the art exhibitions I've been to that I was more amazed at the content of the message of what I witnessed, saw and understood the presentation of our National Artist for Film is none other than (Tatay) Kidlat Tahimik, "INDIO-GENIUS: 500 Taon ng Labanang Kultural (1521-2021)."

it's a root of looking back at what we went through in the sharp hands of the conquerors. But we still have many treasures in our culture.

“We have been so colonized, it’s about time we think… ‘yung genius ng indigenous people are still here. That’s what I call the INDIO-GENIUS. Kasi lahat tayo na-’indio’-nize. We’re all Indios in their books. But maybe, behind the indigenous, ‘primitive’, ‘backward’, and ‘pagan’ is a strong soul… and that’s what I want to highlight here. We are victims of history, and we cannot undo that; We cannot change our outlook, but we can always go back sa mga kaalaman ng ating mga katutubo. Our indigenous people have so much knowledge to offer in a world that is out of balance. If we listen to their INDIO-GENIUS knowledge, I think the world will find its balance. “-

What is Kidlat Tahimik known for?
Director, actor, screenwriter and producer Kidlat Tahimik is also called "the father of the Philippine independent film and the Godfather of the Filipino. New Wave, Kidlat's work ranges from film and photography to weaving, free-style architecture and carved installations.
